Get getty letter, please help
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:14:40 PM »
I put about more than 10 images from a famous photographer on my personal website, his images are all registered. My site is just for fun, not making any money, and I really don't know this is the copyright violation. Now Getty image ask for about $10,000 ($900/each)

Really like some advice here, thank you very much!

Most people who arrive here are in the situation of 1 image, it's not registered and so on.

That's a lot of images. And you say all are registered and the photographer is famous? I'd hire a lawyer.  You could try Oscar's letter program.

Famous photograher?? is this according to getty?
How do you know all of the images are registered? are you sure?

But yeah, first and foremost remove ALL of the images, even ones that aren't Getty's if you did not licence them..Lest other trolling companys come knocking.

Then either get with Oscar or hire an attorney..
Most questions have already been addressed in the forums, get yourself educated before making decisions.

Any advice is strictly that, and anything I may state is based on my opinions, and observations.

I'm taking the letter recipients word that the photographer is famous and that the images are registered. Most images in Getty's catalog are by photogs who are not famous and who did not register the images. Note also: Roughly $900 per image seems to be Getty's standard requested value.  Mine was in the $850 range for 1 thumbnail by a not-particularly famous photog. (She did create nice photos and was known a bit.)

If everything stated is correct and it were me I would seek out Oscar or an EXPERIENCED IP attorney.

Remove the images and don't use images that are not yours or you have licensed.  There are sites where you can find good images for just a few bucks and are not affiliated with Getty. ( www.Pond5.com for example).
Every situation is unique, any advice or opinions I offer are given for your consideration only. You must decide what is best for you and your particular situation. I am not a lawyer and do not offer legal advice.
