More images found, more letters?
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:20:25 AM »
Having received a demand letter from Getty and deleted the image in question, I'm still worried that there may have been more images that Getty are yet to find, claim as theirs and demand money for. Has anyone received a letter for one image, and then, weeks or months later, received further letters about other images that were present at the time? Or does Getty scan websites in their entirety and log all supposed infringements?

Also, any simple advice on blocking and deleting caches would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you have other images are you not sure about, do not wait for a letter to show up!  Be proactive and delete them immediately! I tend to believe once someone gets one letter, most have the idea to get rid of everything else to prevent or minimize any more negative issues.

If you have done that, there isn't much you can do but to just wait.

I immediately deleted all images I wasn't 100 per cent sure about and have set about deleting online caches. My concern though is that people are receiving letters relating to images deleted months ago. I just want peace of mind that once a letter is received then I'm not going to get subsequent letters relating to images that have since been deleted. Does anybody know whether they pick up all alleged infringements in one go? Or do they revisit websites to scan for different images?

It is my understanding that they also search stored web history at www.archive.org .  If your web history is stored there, the do have "removal" procedures.

Yes you should clear The Wayback Machine (archive.org) by following the instructions on the site. To my knowledge, the PicScout bot looks for ALL of the one company's images when it scans a site.  So if you received a Getty letter about one image, then the excellent chance is that you only have one  offending GETTY image on the site.  But the bot does not check all the companies (Corbis, Masterfile) at one time..  So many clients have come to us that after resolving the Getty issue because they have subsequently received a letter from Corbis or Masterfile about other images on the site. Matt is 100% correct that "when in doubt, take it out"
