Progressive settles with accident victim's family after tale went viral

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Insurance company Progressive felt the wrath of the Internet this week after the brother of a policyholder who died in a car crash posted a startling missive about how the family's claim was handled. Progressive has now reached a financial settlement with the family.
Matt Fisher detailed his family's nightmare in a Tumblr post on Monday with a shocking title: "My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court."

Three days later, Progressive said it reached a settlement with the Fishers.

Wow, that is an amazing story. I'm glad that the family was finally able to get this matter behind them and move on with their lives.

Getty Images or its "outside counsel," copyright troll, and collections agent lawyer Timothy B. McCormack or his paralegal Ashanti A. Taylor will at some point send one of their ugly letters to a victim who'll have a story like this one.

And on that day the national media will blast the story everywhere and perhaps put a dent in the success of the payment extraction scheme from which these greedy trolls profit so hugely.

I physically shudder when I think of the pain these letters have caused so many people over the years. And, frankly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few of them had not been responsible for heart attacks or strokes or disabling stress from worry.

National attention focused on these trolls will one day educate many more people to stand up and refuse to pay the vultures who demand money without providing a shred of proof of their right to make such a demand.

And on that day, I'm confident ELI and its wealth of information will be mentioned.

What an amazing story.  Progressive Insurance got very motivated very quickly.

This is what stuns me about all the extortion letter victims who continue to be silent.

I think it's safe to say that the ELI Community subscribes to speaking out very loudly against "wrongfulness".
I'm a non-lawyer but not legally ignorant either. Under the 1st Amendment, I have the right to post facts & opinions using rhetorical hyperbole, colloquialisms, metaphors, parody, snark, or epithets. Under Section 230 of CDA, I'm only responsible for posts I write, not what others write.

Its actually humorously written over something very tragic.
