Success story - the company I work for received a threat/invoice from one "Amana Images" which it turns out is also owned by Getty. Their bots had found a PDF with an image of theirs on it hosted on our server and flagged it up.
Well, the PDF wasn't created by us and naturally we thought it rather unfair to come after us for allegedly using an image without permission in a document created by someone else!
Anyway we contacted the author of the document (a catalogue we were hosting for a manufacturer) and they managed to prove they had the license to use the image in their publication and were well within their rights to allow us to host it. Case closed, problem solved.
Seems odd to scan for PDFs as surely a lot of people will be in the same boat, hosting a document legitimately created by a third party and then being falsely accused of infringement just because your domain isn't whitelisted. Makes you wonder how many, especially companies, will just go ahead and pay it.
